What happened
Following a cargo flight originating from Timika-Moses Kilangin Airport, a single engine airplane arrived at Ilaga-Aminggaru Airport. Upon touchdown on runway 25, the aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently to remain within the runway boundaries. The plane overran the end of the runway by a small distance and drifted toward the right side of the path.
During the excursion, the aircraft struck a wooden guard post and continued until it reached the airport's perimeter fence. The impact triggered a fire that consumed the airframe. The two occupants, consisting of a pilot and a technician, managed to exit the wreckage before the fire caused total destruction of the aircraft. Both individuals sustained minor injuries during the event.
Findings
- The aircraft was unable to stop within the available runway length.
- The failure to stop within the remaining runway distance led to the collision with airport infrastructure and the subsequent fire.
