What happened
During a positioning flight departing from Kampala-Kajjansi Airport, a single-engine airplane was en route to Mweya to collect passengers for a subsequent leg to Entebbe. Shortly after the initial climb, the crew identified technical difficulties with the aircraft and decided to abort the mission to perform an emergency landing back at the departure airfield.
As the aircraft touched down at Kajjansi, the pilot lost control of the plane. The force of the impact and the subsequent uncontrolled movement caused the aircraft to suffer significant structural damage, specifically resulting in the loss of the engine and the left wing. The aircraft eventually came to a halt in an inverted position within a nearby grassy field.
Findings
Following the accident, the two members of the flight crew were extracted from the wreckage. The incident resulted in two injuries: the co-pilot sustained minor injuries, while the captain suffered serious injuries. The primary factor in the wreckage formation was the loss of control during the landing phase.
