Incident Overview
A single-engine aircraft operating a charter flight from Polokwane, South Africa, to Madagascar, with an intermediate stop in Vilanculos, Mozambique, crashed during a nighttime approach to Vilanculos Airport. The aircraft carried one passenger and two pilots.
Sequence of Events
On final approach to Vilanculos Airport, the airplane collided with two palm trees and crashed approximately 2 kilometers short of the runway. The impact destroyed the aircraft and seriously injured all three occupants.
Casualties and Aftermath
All three occupants—the two pilots and the passenger—sustained serious injuries. A few hours after the crash, one of the pilots died from his injuries.
