What happened
Following the completion of a local skydiving operation, a single-engine airplane was performing an approach to a grass runway at the Youngstown-Windsor Airfield. During this final phase of flight, the aircraft became unstable and lost control. The plane subsequently struck a roadway before descending into a nearby pasture.
The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. The pilot, who was the only person on board at the time of the accident, sustained fatal injuries.
Findings
No specific technical causes or contributing factors were detailed regarding why the aircraft went out of control during the approach to the airfield.
