Incident Overview
An aircraft disappeared from radar coverage while in cruise flight at 10,000 feet mean sea level (msl) near Orangeville, Florida. The aircraft has not been located.
Pilot Communications
According to the air traffic control (ATC) transcript, the pilot had been asking about the weather ahead and was cleared to descend to 6,000 feet to get below strong headwinds. One minute later, the pilot transmitted that he would stay at 10,000 feet because he did not have any choice, citing strong turbulence. His last transmission stated that the weather was getting worse.
Status
Search efforts have not resulted in locating the aircraft. The official investigation determined that the reason for the occurrence is undetermined.
