Accident Details
On a flight from Ciudad del Este-Guaraní Airport to Asunción, a twin-engine cargo airplane departed Runway 05 at 1523 local time. The aircraft carried two pilots and two security officers from Prosegur, responsible for a cargo of valuable objects. Approximately 12 minutes into the flight, while cruising at 6,400 feet and 150 knots, the crew encountered engine problems and decided to return to Ciudad del Este.
During the approach from the west, the airplane lost altitude and struck trees near the village of San Isidro, about 1,500 meters west of the main terminal. The pilot was killed; the copilot and two security officers sustained serious injuries. The aircraft was destroyed.
Crew and Passengers
The cockpit crew consisted of pilot Fernando Noldin and copilot Yeruti Núñez. The security officers on board were Hiron Bogado and Fredy Recalde.
Official Findings
The probable cause of the accident was determined to be engine failure.
