What happened
On the morning of May 27, 1987, an aircraft departed from Palm Beach-Intl Airport (PBI) at approximately 09:15 EDT, bound for Marsh Harbour on Great Abaco Island, Bahamas. Following the failure of the flight to reach its intended destination, a search operation was launched. Despite these efforts, the aircraft could not be located and was subsequently presumed destroyed.
Radar tracking indicated that while the flight had initially headed toward Marsh Harbour, the final radar contact occurred roughly 12 miles east of PBI. During the period surrounding the expected arrival time, another aircraft was observed traveling eastbound over the destination airport. Additionally, a different pilot reported hearing what sounded like a radio transmission from the missing aircraft near Grand Bahama Island.
There were no survivors reported, and the pilot was presumed to have sustained fatal injuries during the disappearance.
Findings
Official investigations into the disappearance concluded that the specific reason for the occurrence remained undetermined.
