After a longer-than-normal takeoff in high density altitude (9,286 ft), the aircraft descended 'behind the power curve'. The pilot reduced power and noted low manifold pressure. Unable to stop the descent, he landed gear-down in a pasture, colliding with ditches and a fence during the 1,500 ft roll. All four occupants were injured, two seriously.

Accident Sequence

After takeoff, the pilot reported raising the landing gear, though a witness disagreed. The flight then reduced power, and as the RPM decreased, the manifold pressure was noted to be only 24 inches. The aircraft began a descent that the pilot said could not be stopped with power, so he opted to land in a pasture with the gear down. During the subsequent ground roll of approximately 1,500 feet, the aircraft struck two ditches and a fence.
