Incident Overview
On approach to Augsburg-Mühlhausen Airport, the pilot encountered foggy conditions with a visibility of 500 meters. Unable to visually acquire the runway, he initiated a go-around and diverted to Munich-Riem Airport. Weather conditions at Munich were poor during the approach.
Sequence of Events
On short final approach to Munich, the pilot realized the aircraft was not properly aligned with the runway. He decided to execute a go-around maneuver. During this attempt, the aircraft struck the ground and crashed to the left of the runway. The aircraft was destroyed upon impact, and all five occupants sustained fatal injuries.
Meteorological Conditions
At the time of the accident, visibility and runway visual range (RVR) were reported to be below the minimums required for the approach.
