Event Details
Following an uneventful flight from Goiânia-Santa Genoveva Airport, the crew commenced a night descent to Marília Airport. Poor weather conditions at the destination necessitated a direct approach to runway 03. After touchdown, the aircraft was unable to stop within the available distance, overran the runway, lost its undercarriage, and came to rest in bushes 143 meters past the runway end. All seven occupants were rescued, four of whom sustained injuries. The aircraft was damaged beyond repair.
Probable Cause
The official investigation determined the probable cause to be poor approach configuration on the part of the crew, who landed the aircraft 750 meters past the runway threshold, thereby reducing the landing distance available.
Contributing Factors
Several contributing factors were identified:
- The crew completed an unstabilized approach.
- Poor approach planning.
- Limited visibility due to night and poor weather conditions.
- Low braking action due to a wet runway surface.
- The crew failed to initiate a go-around procedure.
