What happened
Upon completing the landing phase on runway 09 at Ubatuba Airport, the pilot initiated braking maneuvers; however, the aircraft type could not be halted before the end of the runway. The aircraft proceeded past the runway limits, traversing a public road and striking various obstacles. The impact caused the aircraft to capsize on the beach, where it subsequently caught fire.
During the accident, the pilot was killed. Among the occupants, the four passengers—consisting of two adults and two children—sustained injuries. Additionally, the incident resulted in at least three injuries to individuals located on the nearby road.
Findings
Investigations into the sequence of events highlight that the available landing distance was insufficient for the stop. While the total length of runway 09 is 940 meters, a displaced threshold of 380 meters reduced the usable landing distance to only 560 meters. A significant contributing factor was the wet runway surface caused by recent rainfall, which hindered the effectiveness of the braking procedure.
