What happened
A private executive flight traveling from Belo Horizonte-Pampulha to Manhuaçu ended in a runway excursion upon arrival at Manhuaçu-Elias Breder Airport. The aircraft, carrying a total of five people including two pilots and three passengers, was performing a standard descent when it touched down on runway 02.
Immediately following touchdown, the crew engaged the reverse thrust systems; however, the aircraft failed to decelerate as intended. In an attempt to stop the plane, the crew applied the brakes, which led to the bursting of the tires. Due to the loss of braking effectiveness and the inability to stop within the available runway length, the aircraft overran the end of the runway. During the excursion, the plane struck a fence and lost its undercarriage.
While all five occupants were successfully rescued from the wreckage and no fire occurred, the incident resulted in two injuries, including a broken nose and a broken hand for one passenger.
Findings
The primary factor in the accident was the ineffective deceleration following the activation of reverse thrust, which subsequently led to tire failure and the inability to maintain the aircraft within the runway boundaries.
