What happened
A ferry flight was being conducted from Lins Airport to Sorocaba Airport for the purpose of maintenance. The aircraft was carrying two pilots and one passenger. During the descent, the flight crew received notification that runway 36 was active and that three other small aircraft were performing training maneuvers within the circuit.
Under favorable weather conditions, the captain elected to perform a straight-in approach toward runway 18. Upon landing, the aircraft type was unable to decelerate sufficiently before the end of the runway. The aircraft continued past the runway threshold, crossed a nearby road, and ultimately came to a stop inside a ravine. The impact resulted in the destruction of the aircraft. Of the three people on board, the pilot was killed, the co-pilot sustained serious injuries, and the passenger escaped without injury.
Findings
- The aircraft failed to stop within the available runway distance after touchdown.
- The aircraft overran the runway threshold and crossed a road before entering a ravine.
