Incident
A single-engine aircraft crashed at night after encountering fuel or engine problems during a positioning flight from Garoua Airport to Yaoundé. The pilot had departed after 6 pm, a time prohibited for that type of aircraft. En route, the pilot chose to divert to Foumban Airport, situated approximately 20 km northeast of Foumbot. The airplane struck trees and came down in a wooded, hilly area. The pilot suffered injuries, and the aircraft was destroyed.
Reported Circumstances
It is believed that fuel leaked from the tank after a fuel cap was damaged during a prior stop at Tamanrasset Airport. Additionally, the pilot was reported to lack experience in flight operations in Africa.
