What happened
The seaplane departed Dutch Harbor on Unalaska Island for a scheduled mail delivery flight destined for Whitehorse. The route included planned intermediate stops at Cold Bay, Sand Point, and Kodiak. During the initial leg of the journey, the aircraft failed to arrive at Cold Bay as expected. Subsequent assessments indicate that the plane likely crashed into the ocean waters off the coast of Unalaska. The incident resulted in the total loss of the aircraft without any trace being recovered.
The flight was operated with a full complement of personnel on board. The crew consisted of seven individuals, including the pilot and various enlisted ranks such as ensigns, ammunition specialists, and armorymen. Additionally, five passengers were aboard the aircraft, all holding officer or petty officer ranks. All persons on board are listed as missing in this event.
