What happened
In early 1942, a floatplane departed from Topham on Canton Island with the intended destination of Pearl Harbor. The aircraft was carrying a total of eleven crew members at the time of departure. Despite the planned itinerary, the vessel failed to arrive at its destination and subsequently disappeared without leaving any trace.
Search and rescue operations were initiated to locate the missing aircraft and personnel. However, these efforts did not yield any results or leads regarding the whereabouts of the plane. Consequently, the search mission was formally concluded on 10 February 1942, marking the end of active recovery attempts for this incident.
