What happened
During an en route phase of flight from San Juan to Guantánamo Naval Air Station, the crew encountered significant engine problems. Due to the severity of the mechanical issues, the decision was made to ditch the aircraft into the Caribbean Sea. The crash resulted in one fatality among the occupants. Fourteen individuals were successfully rescued from the water. Fifteen people, including members of the crew, went missing and their remains were never recovered.
Findings
The official investigation determined that the primary cause of the incident was fuel exhaustion. This factor led to the engine failures that necessitated the emergency ditching procedure.
