What happened
Following the completion of a maritime patrol mission, the flight crew was in the process of returning to their home base at Narsarsuaq. After successfully touching down on the water, the aircraft began taxiing toward the facility. During this ground movement phase, the seaplane collided with an iceberg. The impact caused significant structural damage to the airframe. All five individuals aboard the aircraft managed to evacuate safely and sustained no injuries. Subsequently, while efforts were made to hoist the damaged airplane, it suffered further harm that rendered it beyond repair.
Findings
The official investigation identified the direct cause of the accident as a collision with an iceberg during the taxiing phase. A critical contributing factor was the presence of ice on the windshield, which obstructed the pilot's view and prevented them from seeing the obstacle in time to avoid it.
