What happened
During a flight departing from Villavicencio-La Vanguardia Airport, the aircraft encountered a mechanical failure during the climb phase. Specifically, the right engine began to overspeed, prompting air traffic controllers to authorize a return to the airport.
As the crew attempted the approach, it became evident that the aircraft lacked sufficient performance to complete a standard landing. In response to the deteriorating situation, the crew initiated an emergency landing procedure. The aircraft subsequently struck a field, traveling several dozen meters before coming to a halt in a ditch. The impact caused the aircraft to catch fire.
Findings
The accident resulted in one fatality among the passengers, while several other occupants sustained injuries. The primary factor leading to the crash was the right engine overspeed during the takeoff climb.
