A cargo flight departed Santa Cruz-Viru Viru Airport at 0807 local time, bound for Cobija-E. Beltram Airport. The crew took off from runway 16. Shortly after departure, they informed air traffic control that they were returning to the airport but did not provide details about the situation.
Final Approach and Crash
On final approach, the aircraft adopted a high-nose attitude, climbed, then stalled and crashed 200 meters short of the runway, bursting into flames. The aircraft was totally destroyed by the post-crash fire.
Casualties
The passenger suffered serious injuries. All three crew members were killed.
Probable Cause
The official investigation determined that the cause of the accident was that the aircraft, while on short finals and cleared to land, executed an unusual flight maneuver by climbing almost vertically until a wing stall, then plunging violently into the terrain within the security area of the runway.
