What happened
During the departure phase from Trinidad-Jorge Heinrich Arauz Airport, the aircraft encountered a critical mechanical issue. While the plane was ascending, the flight crew identified that the right engine had ceased functioning properly. Following this failure, the crew notified air traffic control and received authorization to return to the airfield.
As the aircraft struggled to preserve sufficient altitude, the captain initiated an emergency descent procedure. The flight ended when the aircraft struck an open field situated in the vicinity of the airport. Although the impact resulted in the total loss of the airframe, all three crew members were able to exit the wreckage and sustained only minor injuries.
Findings
The investigation determined that the primary factor leading to the incident was the failure of the right engine during the climb immediately following takeoff.
