What happened
During a flight departing from Villavicencio-La Vanguardia Airport, the aircraft experienced a mechanical failure involving one of its engines. While the aircraft was in its initial climb phase, the pilot identified the engine malfunction and officially declared an emergency. Following this declaration, air traffic control authorized the aircraft to perform a return to the departure airfield.
The crew proceeded to execute a circuit pattern to prepare for landing. However, during the final approach phase, the aircraft lost sufficient airspeed and entered a stall. This resulted in the plane crashing a few hundred meters before reaching the runway threshold. The accident resulted in 19 fatalities, including both pilots, and left 8 passengers with serious injuries.
