What happened
During a night departure, an aircraft operated by Relief Air Transport experienced a critical mechanical failure shortly after takeoff. While the aircraft was in its initial climb phase, the left engine suffered a loss of power and subsequently failed.
In response to the engine failure, the crew performed emergency procedures, which included feathering the propeller and retracting the landing gear and flaps. Despite these actions, the aircraft was unable to maintain its altitude and began to lose height. The flight ended in a crash landing located near the end of the runway.
Findings
- The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
- There were 0 fatalities and 0 injuries reported, as both the pilot and the co-pilot successfully evacuated the wreckage without harm.
