What happened
A pilot departed Stag Lane Airfield for a local private flight. While operating in the immediate vicinity of the aerodrome, the aircraft was reportedly climbing when it struck another De Havilland DH.60G Moth. The second aircraft, registered G-AAKL, was operated by De Havilland Aircraft and was also conducting a local sortie from the same airfield.
Following the mid-air collision, both aircraft lost control and descended rapidly to the ground. They crashed in the area of Kingsbury, located southwest of Stag Lane Aerodrome. The impact resulted in three fatalities, with all occupants on board both aircraft killed in the accident.
Findings
The official investigation attributed the accident to pilot error.
