What happened
During a flight from Dunedin to Wellington, the pilot encountered adverse weather conditions characterized by thick fog and drizzle. While navigating through this low-visibility environment, the aircraft lost control and subsequently impacted the ground. The crash site was located in a field within Saint Andrews, approximately 10 miles south of Timaru. Upon impact, the airplane came to rest upside down.
The accident resulted in one fatality and one injury. The pilot sustained injuries during the crash, while the passenger, who was traveling to Wellington for a Grand Lodge communication, died as a result of the incident.
