What happened
On March 9, 2010, a Cessna 206H was performing its first flight of the day from Guayaquil to Ayangue. After a delay due to refueling, the aircraft arrived at the Ayangue airfield for landing. The pilot initially touched down on runway 26 but, sensing the aircraft drifting toward the left side of the runway, aborted the rollout and attempted a second approach.
During the second landing attempt, the aircraft made contact with the runway 281 meters from the threshold. The plane drifted 281 meters along the left side of the runway before exiting the paved surface. It then traveled 107 meters along the left margin, eventually striking a perimeter fence and knocking down 5 and meters of the structure before coming to a stop after a vertical rotation.
The pilot, who was flying solo without passengers or cargo, sustained no injuries and evacuated the aircraft on his own. The aircraft sustained significant damage, including a detached right main landing gear, a detached nose gear, a bent right wing, and damage to the propeller blades and left wing tip.
