What happened
During an operational mission, a gunship was conducting an aerial attack launched from the Phù Cát area. While operating in the vicinity of Pleiku, the aircraft was targeted and struck by enemy fire. The engagement resulted in the loss of the aircraft.
In the aftermath of the incident, the crew suffered significant casualties. Out of the total personnel on board, three fatalities were recorded, while the remaining six crew members managed to survive the event.
Findings
Investigations into the destruction of the aircraft concluded that the primary factor was the impact of enemy fire during the mission's execution.
