What happened
During a flight arriving at Cheyenne Municipal Airport, an aircraft was performing its final approach when it encountered heavy snowfall and deteriorating weather conditions. During this phase of the flight, the crew lost control of the plane. The impact resulted in a significant post-crash fire and subsequent explosion located a short distance from the airfield perimeter.
The wreckage of the aircraft was completely destroyed by the intense flames. At the time of the accident, the plane had been transporting 15 cadets to the Air Force Academy. There were five fatalities among the crew members on board.
