What happened
A cargo operation departed from Barranquilla-Ernesto Cortissoz Airport at 19:30 local time, destined for Bogotá. Approximately two hours into the flight, while the aircraft was in the cruise phase of its journey, it encountered adverse weather conditions. During this period, the plane became uncontrollable and entered a steep dive.
The aircraft subsequently impacted a forested region situated near Puerto Berrío. Search teams located the debris field several hours after the descent. The accident resulted in three fatalities, as all members of the flight crew perished in the impact.
Findings
Investigations into the wreckage determined that the aircraft suffered a catastrophic structural failure during flight. The primary factor leading to the crash was the detachment of one wing caused by the failure of rivets, which subsequently led to a total loss of control while the plane was navigating severe turbulence.
