What happened
During a flight traversing the northeastern region of India, the aircraft experienced a navigational error that caused it to proceed into Burmese airspace. As the flight continued over Burma, the crew realized that the plane was suffering from fuel exhaustion.
With no remaining fuel to continue the mission or reach an alternative destination, the crew initiated an emergency descent. The aircraft ultimately performed a crash landing on the banks of the Irrawaddy River, situated within the Myitkyina region.
Findings
- The primary reason for the emergency was the depletion of fuel reserves.
- A mistake in navigation led the flight path away from its intended route and into a different country.
- Despite the impact, there were zero fatalities as all occupants on board were successfully rescued from the wreckage.
- The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
