What happened
During a cargo transport mission traveling from Roxas City toward Manila, the flight crew detected significant vibrations originating from the right-side engine. In response to this mechanical issue, the decision was made to abort the original flight plan and divert to Basilio Fernando Air Base for an emergency landing.
While performing the final approach to the airfield, the aircraft type (unspecified) experienced a loss of controlled flight, resulting in a crash landing in a field situated a few kilometers short of the runway. Despite the impact, all three occupants were successfully rescued from the wreckage. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The crew identified mechanical instability in the right engine prior to the diversion.
- The aircraft failed to reach the runway during the emergency approach, impacting terrain short of the landing strip.
