What happened
During an approach to Dudinka Airport, the flight crew encountered visibility levels that were below established minimums. Due to these weather conditions, a decision was made to divert the flight back toward Turukhansk Airport.
As the aircraft continued its approach under severe icing conditions, the crew deployed the landing gear. During this phase of flight, the aircraft type experienced a stall and impacted a field situated approximately 2 km from the runway threshold. The accident resulted in two fatalities, while the remaining ten people on board were successfully rescued.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the aircraft was operating in heavy icing conditions during its final approach. The primary factor contributing to the loss of control was that the approach speed was insufficient to maintain flight when the landing gear was extended, leading directly to the aerodynamic stall.
