Accident Overview

On the day of the accident, a twin-engine cargo aircraft departed Villavicencio-La Vanguardia Airport at 0909 local time on a flight to Miraflores. The aircraft carried 11 passengers, three crew members, and a load of three tons of various goods.

Engine Failure and Return

Approximately eight minutes after takeoff, while climbing, the right engine failed. The crew received clearance to return to Villavicencio for an emergency landing.

Cargo Jettison and Stall

During the approach, the crew instructed the passengers to jettison the cargo. When all 11 passengers moved to the rear of the cabin, the aircraft stalled and subsequently crashed in a field near La Poyata, less than 2 kilometers from the airport.
