What happened
The incident occurred during a nighttime descent into Elmendorf AFB under conditions of low visibility. As the aircraft approached its intended destination, it was flying at an altitude that was too low for the terrain. Consequently, the airframe struck the slope of Mt Chugach, which is located approximately eight miles southeast of the airport.
Following the impact, emergency response teams recovered two survivors from the wreckage. These individuals included one passenger and a member of the crew. Tragically, five other occupants lost their lives in the accident.
