What happened

During a nighttime approach to Las Palmas, a four-engine aircraft impacted the surface of the sea. The wreckage settled approximately 15 km from the runway threshold. Following the impact, the aircraft remained buoyant for a period of time.

On the following morning, search and rescue efforts located the floating plane. During the evacuation process, 11 occupants were successfully rescued from the vessel. However, the accident resulted in three fatalities due to drowning. A few hours after the survivors were removed, the aircraft submerged and was lost beneath the waves.
