What happened
While performing an en route flight, the crew of a four-engine aircraft experienced unspecified technical issues. In response to these complications, air traffic control authorized a diversion to Mitú-Fabio Alberto León Bentley Airport to facilitate an emergency landing.
Upon reaching the airfield, the aircraft successfully touched down on the runway. However, immediately following the landing, the plane lost directional control and drifted off the paved surface. The aircraft eventually came to a stop after the excursion.
All nine people on board managed to evacuate the wreckage without life-threatening harm, though they sustained minor injuries. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
Investigations have not yet determined the specific nature of the technical malfunctions that necessitated the diversion. The primary factor in the runway excursion was the loss of control following touchdown.
