What happened
A cargo operation traveling from Antofagasta toward Asunción, which included scheduled stops in Caldera and La Rioja, encountered difficulties during its leg toward Paraguay. While in flight, the crew notified air traffic control regarding technical problems with the aircraft. Following this communication, the flight was authorized to divert to the Córdoba Air Base.
During the final approach phase, the aircraft type (unspecified) impacted a prairie area situated approximately 4 km southeast of the airfield, near the district of Antigua. The impact resulted in a post-crash fire that completely destroyed the plane. Despite the severity of the accident, all four crew members managed to exit the wreckage and sustained no injuries.
Findings
The aircraft was operating under emergency conditions following the identification of mechanical issues. The subsequent fire caused the total loss of the airframe.
