Introduction
On 30 September 2021, a serious incident occurred involving two commercial aircraft in the vicinity of Sharm Elsheikh Airport, Egypt. The incident was classified as a serious incident under ICAO Annex 13 and is under investigation by the Egyptian Aircraft Accident Investigation Directorate.
Flight History
The incident involved aircraft SU-BUM, an Airbus A320 NEO operated by Air Cairo, en route from Zvartnots Airport (UGEE) to Sharm Elsheikh Airport (HESH), and aircraft SU-CCH, a Bombardier CRJ-900LR operated by PAS, en route from Borg El-Arab Airport (HEBA) to Amman Airport (OJAI). SU-BUM was cruising at Flight Level 370, while SU-CCH was at Flight Level 310. The air traffic controller instructed SU-BUM to descend to Flight Level 320. During the descent at point DATOK, a Traffic Collision Avoidance System Resolution Advisory (TCAS-RA) activated.
Investigation
Investigators obtained and reviewed ATC recordings, radar recordings, and conducted interviews with the air traffic controller on duty. As of the issuance of the interim statement, no recommendations had been issued. The investigation is ongoing, with the next step being completion of the final report.
Conclusion
The incident resulted in no fatalities, injuries, or damage to either aircraft. The probable cause has not been determined at this stage.
