What happened
On 24 April 2010, a TeamEurostar UK EV-97 aircraft, registration G-CEBP, was performing a private flight at Haverfordwest Airfield in Pembrokeshire. During the landing phase on Runway 27, the aircraft experienced a sudden deviation from its path. Approximately 20 metres into the landing roll, a gust of wind caused the aircraft to veer toward the left. The aircraft departed the paved runway surface at an angle of roughly 30 degrees. During the excursion, the aircraft crossed a drainage ditch, resulting in significant damage to the nose landing gear, the engine firewall, the cockpit floor panel, the rudder pedals, and the wingtips. There were no injuries to the pilot.
The investigation
The investigation was based on the aircraft accident report submitted by the pilot. The investigation examined the environmental conditions and the aircraft's movement during the landing roll. It was noted that the average wind at the time was southerly, ranging between 10 and 15 knots. The pilot indicated that the aircraft had been affected by turbulence, which was believed to be a local effect caused by nearby trees situated upwind of the runway area. The pilot was reportedly unaware of this specific turbulence prior to the event.
