Accident Overview
At 1310 hours on 24 April 2010, a single-engine EV-97 TeamEurostar UK, registration G-CEBP, was involved in an accident during landing at Haverfordwest Airfield, Pembrokeshire. The aircraft, manufactured in 2006, was operated on a private flight with only the pilot on board.
Details
The pilot, holding a Private Pilot's Licence with 1,136 total flight hours (336 on type), reported that after approximately 20 meters of the landing roll on Runway 21, the aircraft was caught by a gust of wind. This caused the aircraft to veer left and depart the paved surface at an angle of about 30 degrees. The pilot estimated the average wind as southerly at 10 to 15 knots.
After leaving the runway, the aircraft crossed a drainage ditch, which caused considerable damage to the nose landing gear area. The aircraft eventually came to rest on the paved surface of Runway 27. The pilot considered that the aircraft was affected by turbulence created by nearby trees upwind of the touchdown area, a local effect of which he was unaware.
Damage
The accident resulted in damage to the nose landing gear, engine firewall, cockpit floor panel, rudder pedals, and wingtips. No injuries were reported.
