What happened

On a scheduled liaison mission from Chiayi to Hsinchu, an aircraft entered a period of adverse weather characterized by low cloud cover. Approximately one hour after takeoff, the flight was cruising through clouds when it impacted the slope of Mt Daxue. The wreckage remained undiscovered for two months, eventually being located in a remote area during October.

There were 20 fatalities in total following the impact. The occupants included a crew of four and 15 passengers. The passenger manifest consisted of seven members from the 41st Squadron and eight individuals from the 42nd Squadron. The flight crew was composed of the pilot, a co-pilot, and two additional crew members.

The investigation concluded that the accident was the result of controlled flight into terrain while the aircraft was operating in obscured visibility.
