What happened
Following the completion of a flare dropping mission, an aircraft was in the process of returning to Gia Vuc. Upon completing the landing phase, the plane lost control immediately after touching down on the runway. The aircraft subsequently veered off the paved surface and collided with a set of barracks.
Despite the impact, there were no injuries reported among the four crew members on board. However, the aircraft itself sustained damage that was classified as beyond repair.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the primary factor leading to the loss of control was a failure of the reverse pitch mechanism on one of the engines following the touchdown.
