What happened
During an approach to Bangkok-Don Mueang Airport, the flight crew encountered significantly reduced visibility caused by intense rainfall. In an attempt to complete the landing, the captain diverted from the primary runway to utilize a smaller strip situated adjacent to military installations.
The aircraft failed to align correctly with this secondary runway, resulting in the plane contacting a grassy area beside the strip. The impact of the landing caused the undercarriage to separate from the airframe. As the vessel slid for several dozen meters, the structural integrity was compromised, leading to the loss of both wings and the tail section. During the sequence, one engine caught fire before the movement ceased.
