What happened
On the day of the accident, an aircraft departed from Riberalta-General Buech Airport at 11:23 local time, bound for Guayaramerín. The flight was carrying a total of 31 people, consisting of a crew of four and 27 passengers, which included two children and an infant.
Shortly after the departure, the crew received reports regarding deteriorating weather conditions at the destination airport, specifically noting heavy rainfall and reduced visibility. Following the subsequent landing, the aircraft traveled approximately 300 meters along the runway before losing traction on the wet surface. The plane skidded, lost control, and veered off the runway, an event that caused the aircraft to lose both wings.
While all 31 occupants were successfully rescued from the wreckage, an 80-year-old male passenger passed away several hours after the incident due to a heart attack.
Findings
- The presence of heavy rain and a wet runway surface contributed to the loss of directional control.
- The aircraft skidded during the landing roll, leading to the structural failure of the wings as it exited the runway.
