What happened
During a routine local training mission at Dar es Salaam Airport, an aircraft experienced a significant landing error. The flight crew approached the runway and touched down at a velocity that was considered too high for a safe landing. Additionally, the aircraft was operating in a flapless configuration during the arrival phase.
As a result of the high-speed impact, the landing gear was ripped from the airframe. The aircraft subsequently slid along the runway and came to a stop on its belly. While the aircraft sustained damage beyond repair, both the pilot and the co-pilot were able to evacuate the wreckage without sustaining any injuries.
Findings
- The aircraft landed with an excessive approach speed.
- The crew failed to deploy flaps prior to touchdown.
- The structural failure of the undercarriage was caused by the force of the high-speed landing.
