What happened
During the departure phase from Mandalay Airport, the aircraft encountered a simultaneous loss of power in both engines. This mechanical failure occurred while the plane was in its climbing phase shortly after leaving the runway.
In response to the engine failure, the crew initiated an emergency descent to lower their altitude. The flight crew attempted to perform an emergency landing within a sandy region situated approximately 6 km west of the airport, specifically located in the bed of the Irrawaddy River.
The impact during the forced landing resulted in two fatalities, including one passenger and one crew member. The remaining individuals on board sustained various injuries during the event.
Findings
Official investigations concluded that the primary factor in the accident was the loss of power across both engines during the initial climb, though the specific underlying reason for this dual engine failure remains unidentified.
