What happened
While performing the takeoff roll at Bergamo-Orio al Serio Airport, the pilot attempted to rotate the aircraft when a simultaneous loss of power occurred in both engines. In response to this sudden reduction in thrust, the crew decided to abort the takeoff and applied emergency braking techniques.
Despite these efforts, the aircraft could not stop before the end of the runway. The plane overran the paved surface and collided with multiple approach lighting structures. During the excursion, the nose landing gear was sheared off. The vessel eventually came to a halt approximately 200 meters past the runway end. There were no fatalities among the 31 occupants, all of whom evacuated the aircraft without injury. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- A sudden and simultaneous loss of power across both engines during the rotation phase.
