What happened
A scheduled commercial flight traveling from Lima to Chachapoyas, which included a planned stop in Chiclayo, crashed during its approach to the destination. The aircraft was transporting 41 passengers and five crew members at the time of the accident. After departing Chiclayo, the crew began their descent toward Chachapoyas Airport amidst difficult weather conditions. While the crew had maintained regular communication with air traffic control and reported no issues during the flight, the aircraft eventually collided with the slope of Mt Coloque, situated approximately 15 km from the airport.
The impact caused the aircraft to disintegrate, and the crash resulted in 46 fatalities. Due to the severe weather and the extreme difficulty of reaching the crash site, search and rescue teams were unable to reach the wreckage until two days after the event. The debris field was located at an elevation of 3,300 metres.
