What happened
During a charter operation in Colombia, an aircraft carrying a cargo of banknotes and six people—including two pilots and four passengers—experienced a runway excursion at Montería-Los Garzones Airport. The flight was being conducted on behalf of the National Bank of Colombia.
As the aircraft approached runway 32, which has a total length of 1,860 meters, it was configured incorrectly for the landing. This error resulted in the aircraft touching down too far down the runway. Due to the insufficient remaining distance, the aircraft was unable to decelerate sufficiently before the end of the pavement. The aircraft subsequently overran the runway and traveled 95 meters beyond the threshold. During the excursion, the aircraft sustained significant damage, including the loss of the nose gear and both engines. Despite the severity of the impact, all six occupants escaped the wreckage without any injuries.
Findings
- The primary factor in the accident was an incorrect approach configuration during the landing phase.
- The aircraft sustained damage beyond repair following the loss of structural components and engines.
