What happened
A charter flight operated by Lionair Charter Division departed from Jakarta-Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, destined for Maleo-Morowali Airport. The aircraft was carrying a total of eight people, including four passengers and four crew members consisting of two pilots, a technician, and a flight attendant.
During the flight, the aircraft maintained a steady altitude of FL390 without incident. As the flight approached its destination, the crew initiated a descent toward Runway 23 at Maleo-Morowali Airport. Upon landing, the aircraft type was unable to decelerate sufficiently before the end of the runway. The runway at this location measures 1,000 metres in length. Following the touchdown, the plane overran the paved surface, traveled approximately 200 metres while rolling, and eventually came to a stop against a wooded area.
Despite the excursion, there were zero fatalities and zero injuries reported among the eight occupants, which included four passengers from China. All individuals on board successfully evacuated the aircraft.
Findings
The primary factor in the incident was the inability of the aircraft to stop within the remaining distance of the 1,000-metre runway after touchdown.
