What happened

On the date of the incident, a twin-engine aircraft departed from Magadan-Sokol Airport. Approximately 12 minutes into the flight, while maintaining an altitude of roughly 400 meters, the aircraft encountered terrain near the Ola district. The plane struck the slope of Mt Komendant, located approximately 30 kilometers northwest of Magadan.

The impact with the mountainside resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. There were no survivors from the crash; all seven occupants on board the aircraft perished in the accident. At the time of the collision, the aircraft was in its initial climb/enroute phase of flight.

Findings

The mission being conducted at the time of the crash involved operations on behalf of the KGB and Border Guards Unit. The wreckage was located on the slope of Mt Komendant within the Ola district.
